THE NEW YORK POLISH FILM FESTIVAL 2015 AWARDS
The Krzysztof Kieslowski Beyond Borders Award in the Feature Film category goes to
“Gods” directed by Lukasz Palkowski.
Lukasz Palkowski’s film is engaging, engrossing, dramatically and thematically compelling, beautifully directed with a charismatic ensemble cast. From its gripping opening sequence, the story of Poland’s first heart transplant surgeon during Communist Poland, commands the attention of its audience. It presents a tense and atmospheric tale that sets science vs. politics and religion. While the film shows the unique problems faced by Polish medical doctors under communism, it also speaks of the worldwide efforts of physicians who are dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of humanity. The film is elegant, moving and inspiring.
The Krzysztof Kieslowski Beyond Borders Award in the Documentary/Short film category goes to
“Solidarity According to Women”
directed by Marta Dzido and produced by Piotr Sliwowski.
This extraordinary documentary addresses the long-neglected theme of Polish women’s contributions to the building of democracy in Poland. Marta Dzido’s picture opens up an opportunity of seeing the achievement of Polish democracy in its full dimension.
