STORY
Papusza, a poetically shot film, is based on a story of the first Roma woman to get her poems published. Because she confronted the traditional female role in the Roma culture, she was banned from her community. The film follows Papusza’s life from birth to the old age: arranged marriage in her teens, her life in a tabor before, during and after World War II, later a forced settlement in the Communist Poland, and her relationship with the Polish poet Jerzy Ficowski.
